To match or not to match, that is the question? My first thoughts on this matter had me in favor of allowing all bridesmaids to pick their own shoes in the same relative color scheme. After all, I had already dictated the dress (and the price), so how much more could I demand of them? After polling close friends and family, a nearly unanimous response advised me to pick the shoes and require the women to wear them. And, yet, the thought of this still makes me terribly uneasy.
Walking through Nordstrom this weekends, I spotted the most perfect pair of shoes for my bridesmaids I had found so far (above). Beautiful rose satin peep toe pumps that caused me to let out a long "ohhhh" when I picked them off of the table. Part of the Vera Wang Lavender collection at Nordstrom, they are running a hefty $275.00. This is a price common of fabulous shoes, but can be a lot to ask for women who are already dolling out a lot of dough for your special day. In a fantasy world, yes I would require all of my ladies to parade around in these beautiful soles. However, a good bride must be considerate of her bridesmaids' pocketbooks.
So, there are 2 options as I see them:
Option #1: Spend a bit more time looking for a shoe that will somewhat compare to the loveliness of the shoe above that falls below the $100 mark. Require all girls to shell out the money and let them know that you tried to be very budget conscious
Option #2: Allow your bridesmaids to choose their own shoe in whatever price range that works for them. This option could turn out very good for you, the bride or somewhat badly. Remember, these girls are going to own these shoes, so any of your ladies with an eye for fashion may be willing to shell out a bit more money for a shoe they are going to love and wear again. (You could always send out your dream shoe for inspiration!) You could end up being pleasantly surprised with their good taste. On the other hand, if you have a lady friend who procrastinates (or has very bad taste) you may end up with something in the wrong color or style with limited time before the wedding to fix it. Possible soultion: have them send you a picture of their choice before they order or purchase. Then you at least have veto power.
